Tampere brewery Pyynikin Brewing ends operations

Pyynikin Brewing, a brewery company from Tampere, is ending its operations, Yle reports. Beer production in Estonia has stopped and the company’s staff have been laid off.

Chief executive Juhani Tamminen said the company reduced its loss by hundreds of thousands of euros during the shutdown. Production was halted partway through the process, and everything that could be sold was converted into cash.

Pyynikin Brewing reported a loss of 98,000 euros for 2025. The loss was just over 620,000 euros in 2024, when the brewery was still operating actively, and about 240,000 euros in 2023.

At the end of 2025, the company’s equity was nearly 800,000 euros below zero. It had no tax debts or payment default records.

A troubled history

The Pyynikin craft brewery, which preceded Pyynikin Brewing, went bankrupt in 2022. The rapidly expanding brewery had more than 10,000 shareholders, many of whom had invested in the company. It accumulated substantial losses during its existence and experienced financial difficulties for a long time.

Beer production began in Tampere before moving to Estonia.

The craft brewery’s founder, Tuomas Pere, was sentenced this year to a suspended prison term for economic crimes. The offences were connected to three companies in which Pere had decision-making power: Global Brewing Solutions, Global Brewing Solutions Estonia and Kauttuan Kievari.

Although the brewery’s operations have ended, Tamminen said the brand still has value. The Pyynikin name is used by Pyynikin Brewhouse restaurants in Tampere and Jyväskylä.

“I believe Pyynikki will return,” Tamminen said.
