Police suspect man set fire to Reykjavik building

An Icelandic man in his twenties who is known to police is strongly suspected of setting fire to the building at Laugavegur 16 in Reykjavik overnight, mbl.is reports. The building houses Center Hotels Skjaldbreid and the Andrá clothing store.

Police representative Guðmundur Páll Jónsson said the man was arrested at his home shortly after the fire. He lives near the scene.

The man was under the influence of drugs and in an altered state when he was arrested. He was seen on surveillance footage near Laugavegur 16.

He was released after questioning. Police are reviewing additional footage they have received, Jónsson told mbl.is.

The man has previously come to the attention of police several times.
