Kringvarp Føroya reports that a patrol vessel will be included in proposals for the Faroe Islands’ 2027 budget and long term investment plan, according to Minister Bárður á Steig Nielsen.

The minister was responding to a question from parliamentarian Eirikur í Jákupsstovu about the patrol vessels.

Both vessels, Brimil and Tjaldrið, are currently out of service. Brimil is expected to return to operation in mid October, while no date has been set for Tjaldrið to resume sailing.

While the vessels remain out of service, a Danish naval vessel will operate in Faroese waters.

A proposal for the 2024 budget said that the procurement of a new patrol vessel to replace Tjaldrið would begin in 2025. Four million was allocated in 2024, but no funding was provided in 2025. The proposal said work was under way to prioritise building or procuring a replacement vessel.
