Kringvarp Føroya reports that Education Minister Bárður á Lakjuni has no plans to require smaller schools to merge.

He was responding to an opinion article by Hjalmar Hansen, director of the Education Administration, which recommended introducing such a requirement.

School principals at smaller schools have also advised against merging schools.

Á Lakjuni said one possibility would be to review the primary school law on school mergers when student numbers fall below a certain threshold.
