Central Bank plans gym and office changes

The Central Bank of Iceland has applied for permission to alter the interior of its building at Kalkofnsvegur 1 in Reykjavík, mbl.is reported.

The proposed changes would include a gym, meeting rooms, and research and staff areas on the building’s ground floor and in its basement.

Stefán Jóhann Stefánsson, the bank’s editor, said the current staff gym would be moved from the basement to the ground floor. The plans would also improve facilities for employees who cycle to work.

Providing gym facilities for staff is not new at the bank, Stefánsson said. The gym has been part of the bank’s employee facilities from the beginning and would continue to be intended for staff. The bank’s existing exercise equipment would remain in use.

The plans also include changes to other ground-floor rooms, partly in response to the bank’s security needs. No final decision has been made on the design or timing of the work.
