Icelandic Foreign Minister Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir met Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide in Ireland on Tuesday, mbl.is reports.
Gunnarsdóttir is attending the informal Gymnich meeting, where EU foreign ministers meet with counterparts from several of the bloc’s key partner countries.
The Icelandic Foreign Ministry said Gunnarsdóttir was invited to the meeting this summer. It described the Gymnich meetings as an opportunity for informal discussions on shared interests among like-minded countries, particularly the situation in Ukraine.
Foreign ministers from the United Kingdom, Norway, Switzerland and Canada are also attending, alongside Gunnarsdóttir. Canada is represented by Foreign Minister Anita Anand.
In a post on X, Gunnarsdóttir said Iceland and Norway shared an interest in maintaining a strong European Economic Area Agreement in cooperation with their EU partners. She said she and Barth Eide also discussed the outcome of the referendum.
