A record number of newly registered students have begun studies at Bifröst University this academic year, according to mbl.is. With 1,896 students enrolled, it is the university’s second-largest academic year since its founding.

The university said 57 percent of students, or 1,091, are enrolled in its business department. A further 491 students are studying in the social sciences department and 240 in the law department.

Law enrolment has increased, which the university attributed to a new programme offering a basic diploma in leadership studies in maritime surveillance. The programme was developed jointly by the social sciences and law departments in cooperation with the Icelandic Coast Guard and the Technical College.
