VR will deactivate its train ticket machines by the end of November, Yle reports. The company says the machines have reached the end of their technical service life.

About 2 per cent of all VR long-distance and commuter train tickets are purchased from the machines. Digital channels account for 96 per cent of ticket sales.

Tickets can still be bought through VR’s website and mobile app, at R-kioski shops, by calling VR customer service and, when necessary, from conductors on long-distance trains.

Sales of paper ten-journey tickets for VR commuter services will also end at the end of November. Tickets already purchased can be used until they expire.
