Gribskov plans permanent base for Musik i Lejet festival

A majority of Gribskov Municipality’s Planning, Environment and Climate Committee has backed a new local plan that would give the Musik i Lejet festival a permanent base at Vejby Camping, DR reports.

The current local plan does not allow large, recurring events at the camping site. The new planning framework would permit them, while also addressing noise regulations, committee chairman Tue Villebro of the Liberal Party said.

Musik i Lejet moved from the waterfront in Tisvildeleje to Vejby in 2025. The organisers have applied to expand the festival’s three summer music days into events spread across 19 days a year, including concerts, other events and company parties.

The organisers’ original plans included a Musik i Lejet event for fewer than 20,000 people, summer concerts for fewer than 750, company parties and concerts for fewer than 12,500, children’s concerts and a festival for fewer than 3,000, and other events for fewer than 1,500 people.

Not all neighbours and local residents support the expansion. They fear that more activities would lead to increased noise spread across more days of the year.

The committee has proposed three days in both spring and autumn, with a limit of 3,500 participants, in addition to the three festival days in week 29.

“It is our job as politicians to find a compromise, and I think we have done that at this evening’s meeting,” Villebro said.

Peter Maarbjerg, chairman of the Musik i Lejet board, said the organisers were pleased with the decision despite having sought 19 event days.

“I am glad and relieved that the committee will prepare a local plan that ensures we can hold Musik i Lejet at Vejby Camping. We have always been open to finding a good solution, and this is a good solution,” he said.

The municipal administration will now begin work on the plan. The final local plan is expected to be ready in November.
