Sýn will reduce its workforce after deciding to end the production and broadcasting of television news and Ísland í dag, CEO Herdís Dröfn Fjeldsted said in an email to employees, according to mbl.is.
The cuts will mainly affect employees involved in producing and reporting television news. Discussions with those affected will begin following the announcement, with the company saying the process will be handled with respect and care.
“This will be a difficult day for Sýn employees, but above all for those directly affected by the changes,” Fjeldsted wrote. She asked employees to show consideration and support for one another and thanked those affected for their important and professional contribution to Sýn and Icelandic media.
Sýn will hold an employee meeting later on Monday to discuss the decision. The company said it would focus on providing strong and high-quality news coverage on Vísir and Bylgjan.
