Finland opens autumn higher education application round

Finland’s autumn joint application round for universities of applied sciences and universities opened on Monday, Yle reports, citing the Finnish National Agency for Education.

The application round offers about 12,100 study places across more than 350 programmes. Most places are at universities of applied sciences. A total of 21 universities of applied sciences and two universities are participating, but only six of the available programmes are at universities.

The largest number of places is in health and welfare fields. Applications are submitted through the Finnish National Agency for Education’s Studyinfo service.

Applicants can apply for up to six programmes and must rank them in order of preference. Each applicant can be offered one place: the highest-ranked programme for which their selection performance is sufficient.

This autumn, a new rule will apply for the first time. Existing study rights at the same or a lower level will end if a student accepts a new place leading to a degree.

The application period lasts just under two weeks and closes on Thursday, September 10. Results will be published no later than November 19.
