Police dog subdues person after violent resistance in Tampere

Police used a dog to subdue a person who resisted officers violently at a private apartment in central Tampere on Saturday, Yle reports.

Several police patrols were sent to the apartment. Heikki Järnström, a crime commissioner with the Inner Finland Police Department, said the incident involved violence directed at police officers.

Police established verbal contact with the person, but the situation eventually escalated and officers had to use force to bring it under control. Järnström did not provide details about the events that led to the police dog being used or the injuries caused.

No one else was present in the apartment at the time, apart from the person involved. The individual who called for help had left before police arrived. Police said on Saturday that the incident posed no danger to bystanders.

The case is being investigated as violent resistance to a public official. Police have not yet been able to interview those involved. The operation lasted about an hour and ended at around 5pm.
