Independence Party leader hopeful no vote will win

Independence Party leader Guðrún Hafsteinsdóttir said she was hopeful that the no vote would win after the first results were announced, mbl.is reported.

“I was especially pleased to see the figures from my constituency, the South Constituency. But these are, of course, only the first results. A great deal remains to be counted, and the night is still young, so we will have to wait for the final result,” she said.

Hafsteinsdóttir said the day had been tense. She had been at the headquarters of Áfram Ísland and had called voters across the country.

“I have been calling voters like the wind, all over the country, and it has been incredibly enjoyable to have these conversations. They have been particularly positive, so positive that I am very hopeful that the no vote will win tonight,” she said.
