Kringvarp Føroya reported that Navigare’s new vessel Hav Leiti arrived in Søldarfjørður on Saturday morning for the first time, with a ceremony held to mark the occasion.

Hav Leiti is the first of four vessels Navigare has ordered from the Netherlands. The ships have a combined cost of half a billion kroner.

The ceremony began at 11am, when Hav Leiti made three rounds of the fjord and sounded its horn before docking. Navigare chief executive and shipowner Álvur Højgaard then gave a speech, followed by addresses from Torbjørn Jacobsen, mayor of Runavík Municipality, and Árni Tór Rasmussen, chair of Navigare’s board.

The NES parish brass band performed at the event. The area was decorated with flowers, a large tent was set up, and several attendees wore Faroese national dress.
