Bear digs beneath eastern border barrier fence

A bear has dug a hole beneath the barrier fence along Finland’s eastern border, Yle reports. The Southeast Finland Border Guard District confirmed the incident on Saturday morning.

“The bear has dug beneath the barrier fence, and in these matters the necessary measures are always taken immediately,” the Border Guard District said.

The Border Guard did not disclose where along the eastern border the incident occurred. It also gave no details about when the breach was discovered or under what circumstances.

The barrier fence was built to prevent illegal border crossings. Animals are also having to adapt to the new conditions in an area where they have moved for many years.
