A long queue had formed at the polling station in Kringlan on Friday, mbl.is reported, as many capital-area residents appeared eager to vote before the weekend.

A similar queue was reported earlier outside the premises of the District Commissioner of the Capital Region.

More than 20 per cent of registered voters have already cast their ballots, and several more percentage points are expected to be added on Friday.

People who voted early can also vote at a polling station on election day on Saturday. Their earlier ballot will then be invalidated.

The polling station in Hlíðarsmári closes at 9pm on Friday, while the station in Kringlan closes at 6.30pm.
