Iceland’s entry into the European Union could have serious consequences for the Icelandic horse if an agreement required biosecurity measures to be relaxed to ensure equal trading conditions, mbl.is reports.
That is the assessment of Sigurbjörn Bárðarson, an experienced horseman and former national team coach in equestrian sports.
He said the Icelandic horse was unique and sought after worldwide. Relaxing biosecurity measures could threaten that distinctiveness, he said.
