Boats may leave Faroe Bank with frozen fish on board

Kringvarp Føroya reports that boats freezing fish caught on Faroe Bank may soon be allowed to fish in other areas without first landing their frozen catch.

Under the current regulation, fishing vessels that freeze fish caught on the bank cannot try other fishing grounds until the frozen fish has been landed. A proposal to remove that requirement has now been submitted for consultation.

The proposal also states that fish caught and frozen on Faroe Bank must be stored separately. All packaging containing frozen fish from the bank must be labelled with the vessel’s name, fishing area, fish species and catch date.
