Áfram Ísland holds meeting against EU membership

Áfram Ísland is holding a meeting at Austurvöllur in support of Iceland remaining outside the European Union, mbl.is reports.

The movement said the event, running from 5pm to 6pm, was intended to express solidarity and confidence that Iceland’s future is best secured outside the EU.

Speakers include Katrín Jakobsdóttir, Auður Eir Vilhjálmsdóttir, Sigríður María Egilsdóttir and Áslaug Arna Sigurbjörnsdóttir.

Representatives of X-Nei, a youth group opposing EU membership, will also speak: Illugi Gunnarsson, Hrafn Splidt Þorvaldsson and Salma Björk Önnudóttir.

Halldór Benjamín Þorbergsson is chairing the meeting, while singer Ágúst Þór Brynjarsson will perform.
