Poll shows narrow lead for opposing EU talks

A new Gallup national poll, reported by mbl.is, shows that 51.6% of respondents plan to vote against continuing membership negotiations with the European Union, while 48.4% plan to vote in favour.

The difference between the two sides is not statistically significant, as was also the case in Gallup’s previous poll conducted in the middle of the month. That survey found 51.5% in favour and 48.5% opposed.

The youngest age group is now notably more likely than other age groups to vote against continuing the talks. Some 60% of respondents aged 18 to 29 say they would vote no, a change from the previous poll.

The survey was conducted from August 24 to 27. It included 4,583 respondents, and the participation rate was 39.1%.
