Icelandair flight diverts to Boston over technical issue

An Icelandair aircraft flying from Nashville in the United States to Iceland landed in Boston for safety reasons on Thursday, mbl.is reported.

Guðni Sigurðsson, Icelandair’s communications officer, said the landing was not an emergency landing. The aircraft was taken to maintenance after an indication of a technical issue was assessed under the airline’s procedures.

Guðni said he did not know what kind of fault had been reported. He also said, based on the information available to him, that US aviation authorities had not declared an emergency.

Passengers travelling to Iceland have been given seats on another aircraft departing from Boston and scheduled to land at Keflavík tomorrow morning. Connecting passengers travelling to other destinations in Europe will be sent on a different flight.
