Government sees SEK 50 billion in reform scope

The government estimates that SEK 50 billion will be available for reforms during the next parliamentary term, Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson said at a press conference at Harpsund, the prime minister’s recreation residence outside Flen, according to SVT.

“That is the assessment we are making now,” Svantesson said.

She said the Swedish economy was brightening and highlighted the country’s low national debt despite the economic downturn, as well as investments in defence and efforts to combat organised crime.

SVT domestic politics commentator Elisabeth Marmorstein said finance ministers normally discuss only the coming year, but that Svantesson had chosen to outline the entire parliamentary term because it is an election year.

The day at Harpsund will continue with door-to-door campaigning in the area and end with the traditional crayfish party.

Liberal Party leader Simona Mohamsson is not taking part. She is due to hold a press conference in the afternoon before campaigning in the Stockholm area.
