A fire at a storage building in the Finnish Defence Forces’ area in Santahamina, Helsinki, has been brought under control, Yle reports. No one was injured.

The fire was detected at about 11.40 at a building the Defence Forces described as a weapons repair hall. Personnel working in an adjacent workspace noticed smoke, evacuated the building and called the emergency services.

The Helsinki City Rescue Department and the Guards Jaeger Regiment’s military fire brigade took part in the firefighting operation.

“The fire is currently under control. Rescue operations are still continuing,” Defence Forces communications secretary Lotta Laaksonen said.

Initial information indicates that the fire started in a repair area inside the storage building. The cause is being investigated.
