Keflavík Airport is advertising a fast-track security service that has been available for about a decade, mbl.is reports. The service is now being offered to any passenger who books it and pays 2,480 Icelandic krónur.

The booking is linked to the passenger’s boarding pass and is intended to help travellers pass through security more quickly. The fee is 2,480 krónur per passenger, regardless of age.

Guðjón Helgason, an information officer at Isavia, which operates the airport, said the service was not new. Until about a year ago, it was available only to passengers of airlines that participated in the service, often those travelling in business class or under similar arrangements.

Other companies operating at the airport have also offered the service to their customers, including the baggage check-in company BagBee, which also collects luggage from customers’ homes, transports it to the airport and checks it in.

Isavia decided to make the service available to all passengers after noticing growing demand from travellers familiar with similar services at airports abroad. Helgason said the fast track could help passengers who wanted to ensure a quick passage through security, although waiting times are generally not long.

If demand for the fast track becomes heavy, security staff will manage the queue and direct passengers to more than one security lane after they pass through the gate, Helgason said. This is intended to maintain a minimum waiting time.
