Truckloads of excess soil from a data centre construction site in Mikkeli are still being taken to a property in Anttola, Yle reports. The Permit and Supervision Agency ordered the soil deliveries to stop immediately on Tuesday.

Environmental protection specialist Jyrki Hämäläinen said the agency had also received reports that the flow of trucks was continuing.

Hämäläinen said the agency had no grounds for immediate further action because the stockpiling did not appear to be causing clear environmental damage.

The agency has given the property owner two weeks to apply for an environmental permit or provide another account of how the soil will be used.

“We may submit a request for an investigation into whether the property owner has defied the order,” Hämäläinen said.

Eyewitnesses said excess soil was still being stockpiled at the property. When Yle visited on Tuesday morning, trucks were delivering loads of soil to the site.

The data centre construction site is located in Visulahti, Mikkeli.
