Power has been restored in Grindavík and nearby areas after a fault occurred on a Landsnet high-voltage line between Svartsengi and Rauðamel at around 4pm on Wednesday, mbl.is reports.
Three Landsnet high-voltage lines tripped at about the same time: Svartsengislína 1, Svartsengislína 2 and Njarðvíkurlína. The outage shut down the Svartsengi power plant and left Grindavík and the Blue Lagoon without electricity.
Earlier, Landsnet said the Svartsengi power plant was operating on backup generators to keep its lighting and control equipment running and maintain hot and cold water production.
