Akureyri anniversary festival announces more than 100 events
More than 100 events are scheduled for Akureyrarvaka, a festival celebrating the anniversary of Akureyri municipality this weekend, mbl.is reports.
The festival begins on Friday with the opening of new exhibitions at the Industrial Museum and Mjólkurbúðin. Rapper Saint Pete and electronic music artist Pitenz will also perform at a foam dance event at Akureyri Swimming Pool.
Saturday’s programme includes a free family boat trip aboard Húni II, Viking camps and a street market at Town Hall Square. Singer Jón Jónsson will perform at Hof, while the North Iceland Symphony Orchestra will play music from Peter and the Wolf at the same venue.
Saturday evening will feature a dance event on the pedestrian street with Ágúst Brynjar and his band. Kalli Örvars will warm up the crowd with jokes and songs, according to a statement from Akureyri municipality. Singer Bríet will also hold an outdoor dance event outside Múlaberg in the town centre.
