The Liberals need about 130,000 additional votes to remain in Sweden’s parliament, and one specific region will be especially important, according to SVT political reporter Fouad Youcefi.

The party only narrowly cleared the parliamentary threshold in the last election and has continued to lose support in opinion polls. SVT’s latest poll put the Liberals at 1.9 per cent, meaning they must more than double their support on election day to stay in parliament.

To achieve that, the party will need to perform strongly among its core voters, particularly in the region identified by Youcefi as the most important place for the Liberals’ election campaign.

“It is in this region that the Liberals’ dream will either be fulfilled or die,” Youcefi says.

The 2026 parliamentary election will determine whether the party remains represented in parliament.
