Six new African swine fever cases found in Virolahti

Finland’s Food Authority has confirmed six new cases of African swine fever in dead wild boars in Virolahti, Yle reports.

All six wild boars were found in the same area where the virus had previously been detected. The area is currently designated as the African swine fever core zone.

The results were completed on Monday. Tests on two other wild boars found in the same area were negative.

African swine fever has now been detected in 32 samples. Finland’s first case was found in Virolahti on July 30.

Searches for dead wild boars are continuing to determine the extent of the outbreak.
