Herning medical programme fills all places in first intake

The new medical programme in Herning has filled all its places in its first intake, DR reports. Aarhus University said 70 prospective students had accepted places to complete the master’s part of their education with Regionshospital Gødstrup as their base hospital.

The intake reached its full capacity in the first round of admissions, the university said in a press release.

“This tells me there is genuine interest among future medical students in studying somewhere other than the large university cities,” said Lise Wogensen Bach, pro-dean for education at Aarhus University’s Faculty of Health Sciences.

The programme aims to train doctors in the part of the country where doctor coverage is weakest. The university hopes that the full intake will help attract more doctors to West Jutland.

“We know that many doctors put down roots near the place where they received their education and first clinical experience. Therefore, it makes good sense to train doctors in the part of the country where the need is greatest,” Bach said.

Teaching takes place at SUND+, a new education and health centre in Herning where the medical students share their daily environment with nursing and radiography students, among others.
