German company Nordzucker will close the Nakskov Sugar Factory, potentially affecting 150 jobs, DR reports.
Nordzucker said the closure is intended to secure the group’s future competitiveness and create a more efficient production network.
“We have intensified our efforts further this year and reached the difficult conclusion that we can no longer see a future for sugar production in Nakskov,” Nordzucker chief executive Lars Gorissen said in a press release.
The company said it would continue supplying the market as usual. Sugar production at the factory is expected to end after the current harvest and processing have been completed, in January 2027. The facilities would then operate as a sugar-packing plant.
