Man charged with manslaughter for partner’s death in Akureyri, Iceland

A man in his seventies has been charged with manslaughter for allegedly killing his partner in Akureyri on April 22. The indictment includes accusations of multiple instances of violence and abuse leading up to her death. The case was brought before the District Court of Northeast Iceland yesterday.

In addition to the manslaughter charge, he faces serious assault allegations stemming from a separate incident in February, where he reportedly inflicted injuries on her including a broken nose, bruises on her neck and chin, and injuries to her right eye and arm. The indictment details that the woman sustained various injuries and ultimately died from internal bleeding.

The court proceedings will be closed to the public. It is also noted that the man is required to pay damages totaling six million Icelandic krónur to each of the woman’s two family members. A further court session regarding the case is scheduled for September 3.
