Search continues for person believed to have fallen into river

Jökulsá á Brú, rescue teams, search operation

Search efforts are continuing for a person believed to have fallen into the Jökulsá á Brú river near Stuðlagil, mbl.is reports.

Police received a report at around 1:15 p.m. that a man had fallen into the river. A large number of rescuers were called out, including a Coast Guard helicopter carrying swiftwater rescue personnel from rescue teams in the capital area.

Kristján Ólafur Guðnason, chief superintendent with the East Iceland police, told mbl.is that no further information was available at this stage and that the search was continuing.
