Police seek hit and run driver after light rail collision

Police are seeking a driver who fled after a car collided with the Copenhagen light rail in Gladsaxe on Saturday evening, DR reports. Witnesses who saw the collision or have other information that could help identify the car are being asked to contact the police.

The collision occurred on Buddingevej on the same day the northern section of the light rail was inaugurated, including several stops in Gladsaxe. Police received a report at 8.40pm and found that the train had sustained minor damage, while the car had left the scene.

The light rail train had to brake sharply, and a boy later complained of neck pain. Ambulance personnel examined him and determined that he did not require treatment.

The Copenhagen light rail opened along its full 28 kilometre route from Ishøj in the south to Lundtofte in the north on Saturday. Its southern section, from Ishøj to Rødovre, had been operating since autumn 2025.

The collision was not the first incident in which another road user entered the light rail tracks. Operations manager Frank Pedersen said motorists needed to pay extra attention because the green trains were relatively quiet.

Extra road markings have been added where road users cross the light rail in Ishøj and Lyngby, Pedersen said. He urged motorists to keep their eyes on the traffic.
