Police close two downtown venues over underage youths

Police closed two entertainment venues in central Reykjavík after finding a large number of underage young people there during Culture Night, mbl.is reported. Officers also dealt with many children and young people over alcohol consumption.
In every case, parents or guardians were contacted and had to collect their children from the police.
244 incidents reported
According to the police log, officers handled 244 incidents overnight. Several people were arrested for disobeying police instructions or refusing to provide their names and national identification numbers.
One man was arrested after starting a fight. He was also carrying drugs and was placed in a holding cell.
Another man was arrested for violating Reykjavík’s police regulations. He resisted strongly during the arrest and assaulted a police officer. He will also be charged with an offence against public authority.
Knives and knuckleduster used
Police also dealt with several weapons-related incidents. One person was arrested for carrying weapons in public after being found with two knives.
An assault involving bladed weapons and a knuckleduster was reported. The attackers fled, but after an investigation police found and arrested three people nearby.
No one suffered serious injuries in the confrontation.
Several drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. One of them also lacked a driving licence.
An intoxicated person was injured in an accident in Kópavogur or Breiðholt after falling from an electric scooter.
