Skagafjörður commits 376 million krónur to Hólar drainage works

Skagafjörður municipality has committed 376 million Icelandic krónur to drainage works at Hólar in Hjaltadalur under a recent agreement with the Icelandic state, mbl.is reports. The state will contribute 150 million krónur, leaving the municipality responsible for 226 million krónur, excluding other elements of the agreement.

The commitment appears in an amendment to the municipality’s budget.

The agreement, signed in May, transfers ownership of plots and land at Hólar in Hjaltadalur, as well as land at Nýrækt in Fljót. The properties are valued at a combined 183.6 million krónur.

Under the agreement, Skagafjörður will also take over various infrastructure at Hólar and carry out improvements to the drainage system. The municipality must begin the improvements and maintenance within one year of the agreement being signed and complete the work within five years.
