Sunda municipality has invited users of the boat harbour at Oyrarbakki to a meeting on Tuesday, KVF reports. They will be briefed on the work process for installing new boat pontoons.

The meeting will be held at the municipality’s offices.

The Environmental Agency granted Sunda municipality permission nearly a year ago to expand the harbour. The plan is to remove the existing pier and build a new one 25 metres farther west.

The new pier will be built as a rock embankment, using 7,500 cubic metres of rock.

Biofar carried out a biological survey and prepared a report on the environment and animal life below sea level west of the harbour. Sampling with a grab identified 65 animal species, while divers identified 55 species.

No species was considered threatened. Biofar concluded that all habitats in the area are common both internationally and in the Faroe Islands, and are also common in the surrounding environment.
