Reykjavik Marathon took place on Saturday despite cold and rainy conditions, mbl.is reported. The event included several races, with Micheal Bidmon winning the men’s marathon and Liam Tilton of the United States taking the men’s half-marathon.
Íris Dóra Snorradóttir was the first woman to finish the 10-kilometre race, while former World Championship competitor Elín Edda won the women’s half-marathon.
The event featured significant changes to its organisation compared with previous years. Hrefna Hlín Sveinbjörnsdóttir, events director at the Reykjavik Sports Union, said the changes had worked reasonably well, although there were points to refine before next year.
“It went well. The weather was not exactly the best, but it worked out fairly well,” Hrefna told mbl.is.
Runners said they were pleased with the new route, which gave them a tailwind for most of the course. Hrefna also said there had been considerable satisfaction with the new finish line on a large open area on Geirsgata.
Photographs from the event showed runners dealing with the cold after finishing, while firefighters displayed their muscles after the race.
