Kringvarp Føroya reports on renewed debate over quotas and fishing days, and the role of advice from the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea, known as ICES, in fisheries regulation.
Petur Steingrund, a fisheries scientist and researcher at the Faroese Marine Research Institute, is the Faroese representative on ICES’s advisory committee. He explains the council’s history, how fish stock assessments and advice are produced, and what ICES is.
Steingrund also discusses the Faroese fisheries management plan and fishing day system, and assesses whether the system is an effective tool for managing fish stocks.
Parts of the interview were broadcast on the programme Breddin earlier on Friday. KVF has now published the full interview.
