Former Icelandic president Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson will appear on mbl.is programme Spursmál for the first time on Friday, where he will discuss the campaign ahead of Iceland’s referendum on 29 August, mbl.is reports.
Grímsson, who has openly opposed Iceland joining the European Union, has criticised the possibility of membership. He says the process is premature and that Iceland, like Norway and Switzerland, is better off outside the bloc and without adopting the euro.
Economists Konráð Guðjónsson and Þorsteinn Þorgeirsson will also take part in the programme. They will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of possible EU membership for Iceland’s economy, the impact of adopting the euro and the position of the labour market in that context.
The programme will be broadcast live at 2pm and will be available to everyone through the player on mbl.is. A recording will later be published on Spotify and YouTube.
