Finland summons Russian ambassador over suspected airspace breach

Finland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs has summoned the Russian ambassador to seek an explanation for a suspected violation of Finnish airspace, Yle reports.

The suspected breach occurred yesterday afternoon and lasted about three minutes, according to the Finnish Border Guard.

The aircraft is believed to have been a Russian reconnaissance plane that penetrated approximately nine kilometres into Finnish territory at its deepest point.

The suspected violation took place south of Utö.
