Culture Night, Iceland weather, Reykjavik Marathon

Rain is likely to affect Culture Night in the capital area on Saturday, with around 10 millimetres expected over the course of the day, mbl.is reports.

Meteorologist Einar Sveinbjörnsson said the first band of rain would arrive late on Friday evening and overnight. Another spell is expected between 6am and 7am on Saturday.

Rainfall is forecast to ease around midday, although completely dry conditions are not expected. A final band will arrive in the afternoon and continue into the evening, with the weather likely to clear before midnight.

It will remain cloudy and overcast throughout the day, with temperatures of around 10 to 11 degrees Celsius.

Southerly and southwesterly winds will mostly reach 6 to 9 metres per second, but could increase to about 13 metres per second between 5pm and 8pm.

Sveinbjörnsson said the conditions would be challenging for Reykjavik Marathon participants, who could face either headwinds or tailwinds depending on their position along the route.

“These will be challenging conditions, but nothing too severe,” he said.

He added that there was little chance the rain bands would miss the capital area.

Similar weather is expected in much of Iceland, although the East will stand out with dry conditions and temperatures that could reach 15 to 18 degrees.
