The Ministry of Education will assume full responsibility for building the campus at Frælsinum in Tórshavn, Kringvarp Føroya reports.
The ministry is working to develop the expertise needed to oversee construction of the main building in the campus project. The aim is to keep to the four-year timetable set by the construction administration at Landsverk, which has now been dissolved, Education Minister Bárður á Lakjuni said.
On 1 January, the Ministry of Education will formally take over the campus project. J&K Petersen submitted the lowest bid to build the main building, at 349 million kroner.
In late June, Industry Minister Jacob Vestergaard announced that Landsverk’s construction administration would be dissolved and that its projects would be transferred to the relevant ministries.
The change is intended to create a clearer division of responsibility, with ministers responsible for construction and oversight as well as the financial and professional aspects of the projects.
The same area of responsibility was moved from the ministries and centralised at Landsverk in the late 1990s.
