A new edition of Guðmundur Magnússon’s book Thorsararnir is being printed and will be published this autumn, mbl.is reports. The book, which examines the history of the Thors family, one of Iceland’s most influential families, was first published more than 20 years ago and has long been unavailable in bookshops.

The new edition will include a chapter that was omitted from the original 2005 publication. The chapter concerns the family’s links to American neo-Nazi leader George Lincoln Rockwell, who was once married to Þóra Hallgrímsson.

The omission attracted considerable attention when it became known that the chapter had not been included in the edition sold in Iceland’s bookshops.

Magnússon announced the reissue on Facebook on Thursday, saying that this edition would contain all the material included in the book’s original version.

Speaking to mbl.is, Magnússon said the main reason for republishing the book was that it had been unavailable on the market for a long time. Many people had also told him they wanted to obtain a copy.

Copies had occasionally been available from second-hand booksellers, he said, but they were few and in varying condition. He added that he had always wanted the original version of the book to be made available because of the extensive discussion surrounding it at the time.

The book received positive reviews before Christmas 2005. Three printings were released, followed by a paperback edition in early summer 2006.
