Motorcycle and car collide near Vaðlaheiði tunnel

A motorcyclist was injured when a motorcycle and a car collided at an intersection near the Vaðlaheiði tunnel on Thursday afternoon, mbl.is reports. The rider was taken to hospital by ambulance but was not in life-threatening condition, according to the duty commander of the Akureyri police.

The road was temporarily closed while emergency crews worked at the scene. Operations lasted just over an hour, and traffic has now resumed.

A long queue formed during the response. Both vehicles were left undriveable after the crash.
