Court detains Hungarian man in case involving 15-year-old girl
A 22-year-old Hungarian man has been remanded in custody until 15 September in a case involving the alleged unlawful confinement and grooming of a 15-year-old girl from Hedensted, DR reports.
The decision was made by the Court in Horsens after a nearly six-hour custody hearing. The man was questioned on Wednesday evening and denies the charges.
The judge said there was a well-founded suspicion that the man had committed the alleged offences and that there were specific grounds to believe he could obstruct the investigation.
The court also cited his Hungarian citizenship and lack of ties to Denmark as reasons to believe he might evade prosecution if released.
The man is accused of subjecting the girl to prolonged deprivation of liberty by taking her from Denmark to Hungary on 4 August.
He is also accused of using his age to build a relationship with the girl from 25 January 2026 until 4 August, with the aim of subjecting her to a sexual offence.
The girl was reported internationally missing and found two days later by local police in a small Hungarian town. She was reunited with her family shortly afterwards.
The man arrived in Denmark at around 12.50pm on Wednesday after being extradited from Hungary, where he had been held in custody since 11 August.
According to defence lawyer Jørn Brandenhoff Schmidt, Danish police questioned the man on Wednesday evening. The questioning was presented during Thursday’s hearing because the accused did not wish to make any further statement.
The hearing was held behind closed doors because the investigation is at an early stage and to protect the girl. The public therefore did not hear what information formed the basis for the charges.
