manslaughter, stabbing, Turku

Prosecutors have charged a woman with manslaughter after she allegedly stabbed a man to death in Turku in April, Yle reported. The man died from his injuries.

Regional prosecutor Alma Valpas confirmed to Yle that the charge had been filed. The district court proceedings are due to begin later this month.

The stabbing took place in an apartment at an Esperi Care unit on Ruissalontie. The unit houses people undergoing mental health and substance abuse rehabilitation.

According to the police pre-trial investigation, the woman and the victim knew each other and had argued before the stabbing. Police also said they suspected that the man had assaulted the woman before the incident.

The woman, who is in her thirties, remains in custody. She was detained shortly after the killing on probable cause of the offence.
