The Faroese prime minister has submitted for consultation a proposal requiring information about when people in the Faroe Islands use the internet to be stored for one year, Kringvarp Føroya reports.

The proposal comes from Denmark’s Ministry of Justice and will be discussed in the KVF programme Breddin.

The head of the Data Protection Authority said the proposal covers a broad area but does not go deeply into it. Police said the measure could help solve many cases that cannot be solved today.

A sociologist said there should be a debate about where the boundary lies for people’s privacy.

Four members of the Faroese parliament will take part in the discussion: Ruth Vang of Framsókn, Bjørg Brynhildaróttir Egholm of Tjóðveldi, Sunnvá Dahl Høgfeldt of Sambandsflokkurin and Jóhannis Joensen of Javnaðarflokkurin.

The programme will be broadcast at 10am.
