Copenhagen is considering ways to improve safety for tourists cycling in the city, DR reports. The issue has been debated throughout the summer as more visitors use the capital’s cycle paths.

A previous survey commissioned by the Danish Road Safety Council found that about eight in 10 Copenhagen cyclists believe tourists pose a safety problem.

Several proposals have been suggested, including colour-coded cycling helmets, a tourist cycling licence and mandatory information videos in bike rental apps. Copenhagen Lord Mayor Sisse Marie Welling of the Socialist People’s Party has backed the proposals.

Representatives from Copenhagen Municipality, the tourism industry and bicycle rental companies are meeting to discuss the challenge. DR is also inviting readers to test their knowledge of Copenhagen’s cycling culture.
