Helsinki University will appeal to the administrative court against research funding decisions rejected by Social Affairs and Health Minister Wille Rydman, Yle reported, citing the Finnish News Agency STT.

The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health rejected the universities’ requests for rectification of the funding decisions last week.

The requests concerned nine research projects whose social work research funding Rydman denied, contrary to the official proposal.

Helsinki University told STT that it still considers the original decision unlawful.

The University of Eastern Finland and Tampere University have also previously said they are prepared to take the matter to the administrative court.

The ministry rejected rectification requests from Tampere, Helsinki, Turku, Eastern Finland, Lapland and Jyväskylä universities.
